Spiritual Deliverance FAQ

For many people, the journey through Deliverance can be rocky and hard to navigate. Some people will give up before reaching the new frontier. 

BEFORE FILLING OUT THE QUESTIONNAIRE BELOW, PLEASE READ THE DELIVERANCE FAQ TO ENSURE THAT YOU FULL UNDERSTAND WHAT DELIVERANCE IS, HOW IT IS PERFORMED, AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU. 

What is Deliverance?

Deliverance is a protestant form of exorcism. It is based on the biblical principle that each one of us is a house, and that our sins, the sins of our ancestors four generations back, sins that others have committed against us, trauma, and unforgiveness all open doorways that allow demons to come in and influence us. Through Deliverance, you can discover those open doorways. Through forgiveness, prayers, renunciation, binding the demons and casting them out, you and any other of God's children can shove the demons back out the door and slam it shut behind them, giving you freedom from the negative influence they have had on you. 

We are all fighting a battle against an unseen enemy. In 2 Corinthians 10:4–5, the apostle Paul writes: "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ." In other words, you must fight the battle using the spiritual weapons of the New Testament, weapons like deliverance, truth, faith, scripture, and God's power. 

Who you are fighting against is mentioned in Ephesians 6:12, which states: "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." You are fighting against the army of darkness, made up of a hierarchy of demons with Satan as their general. 

Deliverance is not weird, it is not a sideshow, and it is not something to be feared. It is also not an instantaneous release from sin. People who undergo a deliverance session will often return for others because they feel that there are other doors open somewhere and other demons bothering them. But through a commitment to freedom promised to all believers by God and by aligning your life to Jesus's, you can be delivered from the captivity and torment that is ruining your life.  

Demons? I'm a saved Christian. I can't have demons!

Yes, you certainly can and likely do have demons affecting your life, even if you're a saved Christian. During baptism, the spirit of a person is made new and belongs to God. But the mind, will, and feelings can still hold old habits, pain, or wrong thoughts that open doorways and allow evil spirits to enter your life. 

There are several instances throughout the New Testament that warn believers against attacks from Satan. James 4:7 is written for believers, whom James repeatedly calls "brothers and sisters." And yet, he instructs them to "resist the devil." Also, in Ephesians 6:11-13 Paul tells baptized believers to "put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." These illustrate how there can be external evil forces working against believers. In Matthew 16:23, when Peter hears that Jesus must go to Jerusalem to suffer and die, he rebukes Him. Jesus responds with, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." This shows that evil influence isn't just external. It can be internal. Evil can influence our minds and thoughts, as it did Peter's.  

How do I know if I need a deliverance?

A demon's influence begins with subtle instances that are often misinterpreted or overlooked. It can start with having negative thoughts pop into your head, or hearing a voice in your head that speaks of ideas that don't align with Christ. He doesn't really love you. She's prettier than you. You'll never be successful. You should just jump off a bridge. In addition, you may have nightmares, particularly vivid, recurring nightmares, or nightmares that all feature the same faceless person. You may have what you believe is really bad luck. Nothing seems to go right for you, financially, in relationships, at home, and at work. Also, you may get sick. A lot of people who are demonically oppressed will have frequent headaches and/or stomach issues. You may go to the doctor, and he/she doesn't have a good explanation for what you're experiencing. A demon can also cause you to not think clearly. Demons can even get into your head and fester there for long enough to cause psychologists to label you "insane."

Many of us are born with open doors in our lives, opened by our ancestors or parents sins. These are called generational curses. When our parents have been drug abusers, alcoholics, physically or mentally abusive, have participated in occult practices or fraternal organizations like Freemasonry, they have opened a door into their own lives. When they had children, those open doorways were passed on to you, and you will carry the burden of their sins until you are delivered and close those doorways. 

Keep in mind, though, that not every problem is caused by a demon. Some people make poor choices and cause their own bad luck. Some people are, indeed, suffering from mental issues. And some illnesses have a physical cause that must be treated by medicine. It would be foolish for a deliverance minister to balk at the modern medicine that God has allowed us to create, and to treat everyone as if they need demons cast out of them. 

Is Deliverance scriptural?

Absolutely. Like the supporting scriptures mentioned above, most references to deliverance come from the New Testament, since deliverance was a primary role for Jesus.  In Luke 4:18, you can find why God sent Jesus to Earth, which includes "to proclaim liberty to the captives" and "to set at liberty those who are oppressed." In fact, the Hebrew version of His name is Yeshua, which means "salvation" or "deliverer." Throughout His ministry, He actively sought out captives and those who were demonically oppressed to restore their relationship with God. He cast out demons, healed the sick, and cleansed the lepers wherever he went. He also bestowed these gifts upon his twelve apostles and others, then sent them out into the world to do as he was. 

Any saved Christian, with faith, knowledge, and the gift of discernment, can be successful at delivering other Christians from the demons that torment them. It seems that demons have overrun the world lately, and there are very few Christians who are aware that the healing and delivering power of God can be used in this way.  

How long does a deliverance session take? 

The length of a deliverance session depends upon the number of demons that have inhabited you, their willingness to submit to the authority of the deliverance minister, and your willingness to forgive and repent. Generally, a session can last less than 2 hours, with the majority of the time taken up by counseling about what to expect, and later by how to keep the demons from returning to your life. Luke 11:24-26 states, “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.” In other words, those places in you that are left empty when a demon is sent packing must be filled with the Holy Spirit so that when a demon returns it will find no place for it in your "house."

Is Deliverance difficult? Will it hurt?

Deliverance can be very difficult for some, because it often requires saved Christians to dredge up emotionally painful memories and subjects. The person being delivered must be open and honest about their own sins, repent for them, and forgive those who have wronged them. Many people don't want to give up their sins. They want to continue using drugs, dabbling in the occult, or looking at pornographic materials. And since most people don't understand forgiveness and its effects on our lives, they also don't want to forgive those who've hurt them. For deliverance to be successful, though, you have to really want the freedom that it offers and be willing to endure some emotional pain for a life of freedom. 

How do I know it will work? 

A deliverance minister is simply a tool that channels God's power to deliver people from demons. But the effectiveness of the deliverance relies on honest repentance and forgiveness. If the person being delivered is truly repentant, forgives others, and is willing to let go of negative habits, then a deliverance session will result in physical manifestations. These manifestations come in many forms. Sometimes a demon will speak through the person, using his or her voice. Sometimes, as the demon comes out of the person--often up through the throat and out through the mouth--it will cause the person to cough, sigh, gag, scream, or even vomit. Demons can also cause people to shake violently as they're leaving. Witnessing these manifestations--whether you're a bystander, the deliverance minister, or the person being delivered--can be unsettling. But it's evidence that a demon is being cast out. After the stronger demon, whom the Bible refers to as the "strong man," is gone, the person being delivered may collapse on the floor as if fainting. And when they've risen to their feet again and taken a few moments to recuperate, the person will no doubt feel different. Some say they feel lighter, happier, less anxious, and more content. 

How much does a deliverance session cost?

Deliverance is completely free. In Matthew 10:8, Jesus is instructing the twelve apostles on what to do when traveling for deliverance and healing. He says, "Freely you have received, freely give." Believers in Christ were given the "authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy" (Luke 10:19) without being charged for that authority. So we, too, will give freely without charging. 

That being said, it takes a great amount of time, effort, and expense to reach people who need deliverance and to deliver them. Where do I go to get a deliverance?

Frontier Deliverance Ministry is located in Hampton Roads, Virginia. Since we do not charge for our services, and since Satan seems to be controlling the gas prices lately, we have set an in-person service area that you can view on our Contact Us page. If you reside outside of that in-person service area and you cannot travel to the area, then there are other options. Deliverance sessions can be carried out over video chat using Zoom, Google Meets, etc., so long as you have a computer, tablet, or smartphone with stable internet service. In the future, we will have deliverance guidance videos on YouTube, as well. Honesty is important. If you aren't honest about your feelings and experiences, your dishonesty will prevent a deliverance from being as effective as it can be. We know it can be difficult and perhaps embarrassing to reveal so much of your life to a stranger, but we can guarantee you 1) that we've heard it all before. From the living believing they're having a sexual relationship with a ghost, to a woman who claims to be able to change her eyes to look like goat eyes, to stories of women being tortured and left for dead by their spouses, there isn't much we haven't heard. And 2) the answers to your questions will be kept private. They will be viewed by only two people--Jeff, who is an ordained minister, and Linda, who is a deliverance minister with the gift of discernment. When not active, your case file containing all of your personal information is kept in a locked digital file so that we can ensure your privacy. 

There may be questions that you cannot answer. For instance, the questionnaire asks about ancestors' behaviors and habits. We only ask that you do the best you can to answer as many questions as thoroughly as possible. In many questions, we've provided an option to answer "I don't know." Keep in mind, though, that you must answer every question.
