Home Evaluations

Frontier Deliverance Ministry has developed a unique method of evaluating potential causes for paranormal activity in Christian households throughout Virginia. Many Christians experience paranormal activity within their homes, but struggle to find a pastor or minister to assist them with the problem. Many reluctantly turn to paranormal investigators who believe in the existence of ghosts and who often use methods that don't align with scripture, which can result in a bigger issue than the homeowner had before contacting them.  

A Home Evaluation, like a paranormal investigation, identifies potential natural explanations for the reported activity, measures electromagnetic frequency and carbon dioxide levels in the home, listens for disembodied voices, takes photos and videos, and determines if there were any changes in the lives of the residents around the time that the activity began. However, a Home Evaluation differs from a paranormal investigation by assuming that the activity, if lacking a natural explanation, is caused by demons. Furthermore, Frontier Deliverance Ministry may utilize audio recorders, but will never ask questions of the spirits because doing so may violate the often-debated Deuteronomy 18:10-11, which states that we should not perform necromancy, which is seeking answers of the dead. A Home Evaluation also seeks out events that could've opened the door to demonic activity, and finds objects that could have a demonic attachment.

Home Cleansings

Often referred to as a house blessing, a cleansing is used separately or together with a Home Evaluation. The purpose of the house blessing can vary. Some wish to have a new home blessed before moving in, while others are experiencing paranormal activity and want to rid the home of spirits.

During a Home Cleansing, Frontier Deliverance Ministry utilizes targeted spiritual warfare scriptures, blessed salt, and holy water along with burning frankincense resin. We do not use pagan-based cleansing materials like sage, and we will not use Catholic-based rites of exorcism because we are a protestant organization. 

Luke 10:19 states that we are given authority over all the powers of the enemy, and Frontier Deliverance Ministry uses this authority in conjunction with faith and the power of the Holy Spirit to drive out unclean spirits from a home and property. Are the spirits on my property ghosts or demons?

This is an age-old question debated by scholars, theologians, and paranormal investigators alike. The Bible never explicitly states that ghosts (spirits of those who once lived) exist. There are scriptures that some point to in support of their theory that ghosts exist, like the one in 1 Samuel 28, where King Saul asked the Witch of Endor to call forth the spirit of the prophet Samuel. The spirit rebuked King Saul for consulting with a medium and said that he and his sons would die in battle the following day. Both Saul and the witch believed that the spirit who appeared was Samuel, but many say that the spirit was a demon in disguise. There's no way to know, since the word used for the spirit was uttered by the witch and not by the writer of 1 Samuel. However, it is important to note that if it was the ghost of Samuel, the ghost wasn't wandering the earth but had to be called down by the witch. 

Another passage that mentions a ghostly apparition is Matthew 14:26. The disciples, upon witnessing Jesus walking on the water, believe at first that He is a phantasma, a word that translates to "ghost," "apparition," or "phantom." The important thing to note here is that even though the disciples believed ghosts existed, that doesn't mean they do. 

Our experiences with demons and with paranormal investigations over the years has led us to believe that all ghosts are demons in disguise, and that ghosts do not exist. However, since there is no evidence to the contrary, we feel it best to treat every spirit as if it were a demon. 

My house is new construction. Why would there be a demon here?

Unclean spirits can be attracted to a piece of land, not just to a house. Before your house or even your neighborhood existed, the land may have been occupied by farmers, settlers, or Native Americans. Any of these land dwellers could be the cause of the demonic activity in your home. 

What causes demons to become tied to a piece of land or a structure?

Just as demons enter a person's body and mind through metaphorical open doorways (sins, trauma, curses, etc.) so too do demons enter a property. There is always an object or event that opens the door to let demons enter. Events are those that shed a lot of blood upon the ground, like battles or wars, as well as murder, suicide, and other violent crimes, excessive use of pornography or sexual exploitation, use of an Ouija board, mediumship/psychic activities, rituals, or repeated abuse that took place on the property. Objects can also cause demons to enter are idols that are worshipped by homeowners, cursed objects, and objects that are related to the occult (whether or not you realize it). It is imperative during a house cleansing that every object tied to the occult is removed from the property. This can be difficult, considering that some objects that seem harmless could have been manufactured by companies that have ties to the occult and that objects such as mirrors and jewelry can be cursed by previous owners. 

Examples of objects to look for are those obviously tied to the occult like tarot cards, dreamcatchers, crystals and other rocks, the evil eye, Ouija boards, Magic 8 Ball, scrying mirrors, crystal balls, pendulums, texts from other religions including the Book of Mormon, statues of deities like those from Hinduism and Buddha, and other methods of divination. Ritual objects like Freemasonry rings and objects, chalices, wands, knives, and robes should also be removed along with symbols and amulets like the pentagram, sigils, planetary seals, or other objects meant to bring good luck, power, healing, or protection to the wearer. Objects that are not so easy to identify as occult-related are martial arts objects, things used for yoga, ancient Egyptian decor, and the Hamsa hand. Be sure to look at books related to any of the above, as well. 

Also, if someone else has cursed the house, then this can open a doorway for demons to enter. And while demons can go anywhere they want at any time they want without being bound to a property, these places are said in the Bible to have been defiled or are places of excessive sin, which may be what attracts demons to them and causes them to linger there. 

If there's demonic activity in my house, will this eventually lead to oppression or possession? 

That depends on those residing in the house. To look at it from different perspectives, let's start with the Catholic church.  According to exorcists, there are different levels of demonic activity. The first is Infestation, which occurs when a demon comes into a home or onto property and starts causing trouble in the form of opening and shutting doors, knocking on walls and floors, rattling silverware in the drawers or pots in the cabinets, toppling over decor, knocking framed photos off walls, etc. The next highest level is Oppression, which is when demons begin to attack the people living within the home without actually possessing them. In may start with thoughts people have that don't align with a Christian lifestyle, unexplained illnesses, nightmares or night terrors, sleep paralysis, sleepwalking, fits of anger, frequent headaches, stomach pain or nausea, paranoia or excessive fear, depression, anxiety, aversion to scripture or sacred objects, exhaustion, self-harm, or addictions. The third and highest level is possession. When the mind and body have been broken down to a certain point, possession is said to occur. This is when the demons control a person's thoughts and actions. However, the New Testament appears to lump the second and third categories together with the term "demonization." This can involve a person's speech, behavior, physical symptoms, consciousness, strength, perception, and other faculties, as previously described. But it's important to keep in mind that a possessed person isn’t necessarily completely controlled every second. 

When considering a move from the stage of Infestation to one of demonization (or oppression/possession), we must consider the victim's awareness of the situation and willingness to fight against the demons. Many people, even Christians, don't even know that demons are infesting their homes and moving into a state of demonization. They assume that it's a ghost, their own thoughts, or simply "the flesh" that is causing the issues. Some people have children who are suffering from demonization, but they take them to doctors and psychologists for answers. The doctor's answer is always counseling and/or medication, which may not work if the source of the problem is, in fact, spiritual and not something like a chemical imbalance in the brain. So they fail to seek the right avenues of deliverance. Others may be aware that the activity is demonic and may seek to fight against it in it's early stages, thereby pushing the demons out before the person becomes demonized. 

Will a demon enter through the front door like we do? 

While a demon can enter through the front door of a home, it is just as likely to enter and exit through other ways. A demon, since it lacks a body, can enter and exit through a wall or ceiling. It is not constrained by habit or flesh to use only doors. In one instance, the woman of the house witnessed a dark apparition leaving her daughter's bedroom through the ceiling. This was an indication that we were definitely dealing with a demon.

Demons will also use plumbing fixtures and pipes to travel in and out of the house, as well, like clothes washers, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, and even wells. If you repeatedly smell a foul smell in a bathroom, kitchen, or utility room for no apparent reason, it's important that you call a plumber to investigate the source of the smell. If the plumber can find no reason for it, then blessing these areas would be the recommended next step. 

Is it okay to bless the house with sage?

No, not if you are a Christian. Sage is associated with smudging, which is an activity performed by Native Americans and Wiccans. It relies upon the power of the dried plant material itself to clear and cleanse the home. Christians cannot put their faith in something that is based in paganism. A good alternative to use would be to burn frankincense resin over coals, use holy water that you can get from a Catholic church, or use holy anointing oil. However, we do not advise that someone attempts to bless their home without having a full understanding of the best methods, scriptures, and what they could encounter while doing so. Will a cemetery on my property cause demons to linger here?

Not necessarily. A cemetery alone, like those created by families in the old days, will not cause a demon to linger about. If a demon is suspected to be lingering in a cemetery, it is more likely that it is there due to a curse, due to a violent event that occurred on that land, or because of local teens seeking to get a thrill. Demons feed off of fear, as well as pain, suffering, chaos, anger, and violence. It is these things that will cause a demon to linger somewhere. So one of these strong emotions must be tied to the cemetery in order for a demon to find interest in it.
